Zycrei

Zycrei is a Greek artist born in Cape Town-South Africa. She is active in visual art.

The name Zycrei contains parts of the words Zymosis and creation and implies a comparison of the process of making art to the process of zymosis.

Mixed media art images made by drawings with acrylic, charcoal, paint markers and personal photos are turned into videos or combined with poems as an integrated part of them. Camouflaged recursion is her art technique to combine pictorial elements in a composition. Printed artworks are further developed whenever on canvas.

Her work relies on abstraction and non-transparency (referring to inner workings), the inherent characteristics of poetry, eroticism, thinking, seduction and life itself. It is like wandering in a ‘city’ in digital post- truth age, having a map of another ‘city’ with the characteristics above.

She creates artworks for the black of the white of the grey life in a society that is afraid of secrecy, darkness and diversity.

She was participated in the exhibition The Artbox. Project Basel 1.0 14th June - 18th June 2017 Art Basel Week, Switzerland with her project 'Being of a doornail'. Also three drawings of her digitally processed and a video poetry project exhibited at the The Wrong - New Digital Art Biennale, opened from Nov.1st 2017 to Jan.31st 2018 http://www.homeostasislab.com/Zycrei. Her video poetry "Err_Name_Not_Resolved" and "Connoiseur" as well as her project "Self- Disclosure Series" were exhibited at the exhibition DigitalArt Factory 13th- 23th September 2018, Palazzo Velli, Rome. Her last group exhibition was the 50 Under 50, 1st- 30th November, Unit 6 Gallery and Studio, North Yorkshire. Four digital artworks of her, printed on kapa- mount material related to digital rooms and environments were selected.    

She is also a member of The Cult House and she collaborates with fanzines: Bebabebo, Velocity Escape, chimeres (Editorial Team member), thiela.
